Which amuses me in a way cause I have a lot of friends who think he's a whole lot of nothing special to look at.

I remember telling a friend Hugh was more "boy next door" than good-looking. I thought he was special for his talent not his looks. I think he's transformed by his smile and he rarely smiles in films.
I like Leo DiCaprio. I was put off by the teen-heartthrob label for a long while, but when I watched him in serious films I was impressed. He doesn't get in the way of the story. Matt Damon is the same.

I agree re Leo and Damon Wombat, so I'm not surprised by the roles they each get. At the same time though I long for Hugh to get the same roles or is at least in contention to get those same roles. And lately with Leo stepping into Hugh's shoes for "Prisoners", I'm inclined to believe Hugh does get some big offers but scheduling sometimes doesn't permit.
I know a few people too who think Hugh's bleh, lol, but usually after some time Hugh's personality makes everyone fall in love with him. I've non intentionally converted a few of my friends who I thought would never get on the Hugh train. But as far as good looking celebs go, Hugh has gained a whole lotta popularity from being "sexy" or "hot". From the general consensus, most people's first reaction to Hugh is "OMG HE'S SO HOT".

I think he's transformed by his smile and he rarely smiles in films. Absolutely true. His personality is never reflected in his roles. Which is why I can't convince my friends that he is actually a lovely guy in real life. And this is also why I keep wishing he did more light (but smart) comedies, so that he gets to be more himself. Wolverine is never gonna be a people's guy, no matter how much money he makes.

Avon Man of all scripts feels like it's made specifically for Hugh to play Cole. That's one of the big reasons as to why I really want to see that culminate into a film sometime soon. But at the same time, how many actors actually play characters that are true to what they're like in real life anyways?

Off-hand I can say George Clooney too often plays the suave, upper-charming rich bachelor that he is. Lol... The truth is, comedy or drama, what I really want to see is 2 things: a really character-driven role, played by a really pretty Hugh. But that's something so rarely happening with him.

Character driven is probably the main issue here, so many of Hugh's movies I feel are overshadowed by "the other things". Even "The Fountain" I feel, even though sure it's character driven, had a lot more focus on the arts and style of the film than anything else, same goes for "Australia" which was just BIG BIG BIG. This is why I'm looking forward to Hugh's upcoming slate of films, outside of RS, they're all smaller budget movies that Hugh's either supporting in (Selma though that's a pretty big supporting role, Snow Flower, Butter, Untitled Comedy Shorts movie) or starring in(Avon Man). Even RS which could be a real blockbuster, doesn't have an overly huge budget and at it's heart, does have a good father/son story.
And this is also why I think so highly of "The Prestige" and I really agree with Hugh when he says that's his most complete movie to date. EK for me is still Hugh's best performance and that is a 100% toned down character driven performance.

I actually enjoyed reading RS's script more than Avon Man's. It has more depth, twists and character-focus. AM is a bit "too light" in my book. But I do think the larger emphasis in RS was placed on Max, so it likely won't be a breakthrough performance for Hugh. It's only potential is a great movie.

One of the main reasons for my liking of AM has to do with the fact that Hugh hasn't played light yet, so either way the movie would be new for Hugh and has a chance to be good BO. RS is quite meh for me because Charlie Kenton is pretty much the modern day human equivalent of Wolverine, Hugh's played that character countless times. And I feel the stars of that film are Max and Atom the robot, moreso than Charlie. I thought the script was fine, most likely going to be a good movie. AM just strikes me as newer and a bit more refreshing while being commercial enough for the masses to enjoy.
Selma on the other hand is the only one I regard as "THIS BETTER HAPPEN" and hope to see it shooting soon. If AM never happened, I wouldn't be too heart broken, sad yes, would love to see it go through though. Unbound Captives I think had a really great script and would love to see that go through too, but again, Tom Dearborn is just a better fleshed out version of Drover. But UC I see as the "Australia" I never got to see but expected so that would be great too if it happens at some point. Not gonna lie though, I'm still waiting for some surprise project that really peaks my interest(still beyond bummed Prisoners didn't happen).

This summer, I'm looking forward to Inception and Toy Story 3. Oh yes, me too, the only two movies I'll probably see this summer. Inception I'm planning on going opening weekend.

I kinda don't see how this would work if they did this and also had the show running. There isn't really enough story to have both a show and a movie going I don't think. They already finished 1 year for HS in 1 season, and are they going to just keep losing regionals so they can keep the show going? Yea I dunno.

Selma on the other hand is the only one I regard as "THIS BETTER HAPPEN" and hope to see it shooting soon. Lee Daniels very recently confirmed that this is an all go, starting pre-production in August and shooting in October. So it WILL happen.

That's right, forgot Daniels himself said that. And I think since he didn't mention Hugh when naming out the cast, I didn't put much thought into it, lol. Hopefully there aren't any complications that will delay it even more.

Isn´t Elizabeth Taylor...um...still alive? I don´t know but it seems weird to make a biography about an actress who is still around. I know she had an interesting life but it is a little disrespectful. *shrugs*
Colin Firth and Clive Owen are not right for Burton. But I think Crowe would be good.

I'm shuddering at the thought of Crowe attempting a welsh accent. With Burton, the voice is even more important than the appearance.
How about Michael Sheen? He's made a name playing famous englishmen (Tony Blair, David Frost and Brian Clough) but he's welsh and grew up in Port Talbot (Richard Burton's home town).

Thanks for the Q&A link. I've always been intrigued by Weir's films, especially the earlier ones with supernatural overtones, such a PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK and THE LAST WAVE. Too bad he and Hugh have never done a project together, but maybe in the future...?
