What about Invictus? We don't get that until February but least we'll have the advantage of understanding the game. I think my sons will like it.

WOW DEE!!!!! It has NEVER been cheaper than 5 bucks to watch a matinee here in Cali where I live, and if you go to SF or SJ to watch movies, matinee could be as expensive as freaking $9!!!!!
Invictus I'm not all that interested in just because of the way the trailer was, lol. It wasn't all that captivating to me and the accents were a big turn off for me, especially Freeman's very inconsistent one. And the reviews have not helped at all since most people found it somewhat disappointing but I guess that's what happens most of the time when people expect masterpiece.

Thanks Irene for the little synopsis on Precious. Although I'm more an action/adventure/comedy type, there are dramas that catch my interest. It's all in the story and this one def sounds like one worth seeing. But I don't think it's played here...

I saw the trailer for Invictus without really knowing what it was about, and my general reaction was "Hahaha! They made a Springboks movie?" Which isn't quite the point of it, but there you go. The SA sis-in-law quite wants to see it for fairly obvious reasons.

I SAW IT! Finally last night we went and it was pretty great. Visually absolutely stunning and very unlike anything that's ever been out there. I thought the story was fine, and definitely best picture material for the Oscars. My only gripe was that in some parts, the dialogue was slightly cringing but other than that, very solid movie. I'm a fan, I might see it again soon, might drag the parentals to it.

My adult kids (love that oxymoron!) and I thought about seeing AVATAR but it was sold out, at least in the 3D version. So we opted instead for SHERLOCK HOLMES, which I'd heard mixed things about. Happy to report it was highly entertaining and delightful, if not faithful to Holmesian lore. Robert Downey Jr. had the right blend of insouciance, whimsy and panache for this reimagined Holmes: part James Bond, part Batman, and even a little of Doyle's original cerebral character. Yet throughout I kept picturing Hugh in the lead. I don't think he's ever done a film role that truly captured his mischievous sense of humor; this one surely would have. But that being said, yes, I thought Downey was great. Jude Law was fine, too, although I still can't warm up to him.

We're going to see SH today, but I think Downey might have been a foregone conclusion to star in this since his wife is one of the producers.

I saw "An Education" and it was pretty good, a very honest coming to age sorta study on innocence and I guess the teenage way of thinking/ignorance.

So this morning I read that the next Bond movie is put on the back burner because of the pending sale of MGM, and now I read that Sam Mendes is in negotiations to direct with a possible start date of June despite the pending sale.

What it's doing right now is beyond impressive, I think for sure that it can possibly overtake "Titanic" for #1 BO of all time.

That's really interesting, lol, and yes, had this not been in 3-D would I have liked it as much? Probably not, I'll admit it, story wise it's same ol' same ol', but the visuals are remarkable.
