Thanks to my dad for making a small dream of mine come true! I've waited for three years to see one of my favourite musicals Jekyll and Hyde and I saw it today with Marti Pellow!! It was brilliant and Marti had the most dominant voice!!

My dad and I left at 1.30pm yesterday for Churchill Theatre, Bromley. Dad had bought me tickets to see Jekyll and Hyde the musical for Christmas as I’d waited three years to see it after hearing the music for the first time on MySpace. When I found out it was going to be shown at one of my local theatres I was so excited. It didn’t hurt the lead was being played by Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet fame. We managed to catch a 261 but on the way we realised we were going to be a bit late. Even though inside I was panicked I tried to remain calm. When we reached Bromley we ran to the theatre even though he tried to slow me down a bit but I had waited so long and was terrified we were going to miss it. When we got there we got our tickets and went down to the stalls. We saw an usherette there with three dogs and I wondered if there had been an alert and they were sniffer dogs. Anyway they didn’t sniff me and we managed to get to our seats as luckily curtain hadn’t yet gone up. We managed to get into them at the back fine and the curtain soon went up. I loved it even though there were some songs I didn’t recognise from the Broadway soundtrack I’d been listening to many times over the last three years. Sir Danvers Carew looked to me a bit like Lord Henry Wooton and I had to remind myself it wasn’t Colin’s Lord Henry. Some of the questions I had been asking since hearing the music were answered in the first act. One of them was how they would show the transformation from Jekyll into Hyde. They did this by Marti changing his hairstyle so part of his hair would flop forward and wearing a cloak with a fur collar and a top hat. The first act ended where I thought it would with the first murder. In the interval we went out into the foyer and I bought dad and I a glass of apple and mango J20 each and the programme. I always try and get the programme. I noticed David Delve who I believe I have on one of my musical CDs was playing Sir Danvers and this was Marti’s fourth musical. We also found out the dogs were guide dogs and dad stroked one telling the usherette it reminded him of Krishna. Krishna was a golden Labrador my dad had before I was born. We soon went back in to watch the second half which I also loved. I found it impressive how Marti managed to portray both sides of the character and the slight jealousy of Hyde’s lust for life and Hyde’s struggle for Jekyll not to defeat him and give in to his worse self. Marti definitely had the strongest voice out of the lot of them. The last of my questions was answered in the second half. I wondered how they were going to do the duet between Jekyll and Hyde. They brilliantly did it by the use of a recording of Marti Pellow’s voice for Hyde and a person behind the mirror almost coming to get up and ending with a projection of Hyde appearing in the large window behind him. When the curtain came down it got a large applause and even a standing ovation. Dad thinks it was all the Marti Pellow fans as he thought the show was bland. They bowed three times then we left the theatre. I thanked my dad for making a small dream come true while sorting out my coat and scarf.
