Every Christmas, my father would receive a parcel from relatives in Scotland containing the kind of treats you couldn't get south of the border. Our favourite was "tablet" which is similar to toffee, fudge and caramel but has a particularly crunchy texture. I found a good recipe a few years back and we make a batch each Christmas for my father. The ingredients are simple - sugar, butter and condensed milk. You don't want to count the calories. scruss.com/tablet.html

Thank you for the link to the recipe. My father was born in Scotland and this is a childhood treat I used to get from my grandmother.

Ooooh. That sounds lovely, and nice story to go with it. I love hearing about family holiday traditions.
Now I have an excuse to buy a new candy thermometer!
