I think I'm the only one left. Hubby and neighbors are apparently going to storm the utility company. Someone said there are wires down right outside my development and to fix it they have to shut others down and they are "not ready to do that yet." !!!!!!!

I hope your area is repaired quickly (like now).

I hope your area is repaired quickly (like now). Got a robocall from an annoyed sounding mayor saying he's been in touch with the utility and apparently we have some kind of "special problem" they are working around the clock to fix. Yeah right. I'm sure they'll be working during the nor'easter.

Hope your power is back this morning and I hope all of you get through today's weather without more hardship.

Hope your power is back this morning and I hope all of you get through today's weather without more hardship. Nope, supposedly Friday at "11:59 p.m." yeah, the recording said that when you plugged in your phone number. We'll see. Apparently overhead wire issues. Hubby said development is a ghost town. We're leaving Friday for my nephew's wedding in Maryland (where everyone from Long Island understandably has cancelled so my side has 30 people and the bride has 100) but we're staying at a local hotel Thursday after I get picked up from my Mom's, drop off the clothes I took at home and repack for the wedding hoping I can see and fingers don't turn blue... It should be fine (I really shouldn't complain since there are so many without homes) and I'm hoping to come home to a place with lights on Sunday.

I hope you have a safe trip, Pat, and a happy family wedding.
With more and more "weather events," as they're euphemistically called now, I can't understand why underground utilities are not the rule across the nation as they should be. Yes, there's a cost factor. But don't most towns have bond issues for expensive projects? Keeping people safe is just as important as obtaining funds for new schools.

Hubby now reports there is a cop car stationed outside the development because they are afraid of looters and you have to show ID to get in to show you live there.

I am glad to know the police are guarding your neighborhood, Pat. When you stated it was like a ghost town, all I could think of was that looters could go in and have a field day.

That's a bit of service at least. Police are spread so thin you don't always feel protected. I'm stuck at work again. Weather was too bad for day shift to leave and evening people couldn't make it in. Wish I'd packed for the occasion. Still have my bedding here though.

A "ding" woke me at 4 a.m. - hubby texted me with"it's on! Came on at 3 a.m." So glad it was back before I have to leave for the weekend. Seems like I just made it out of Port Authority yesterday - had to stand on a 4:00 bus and them while on the road it announced 30 min bus delays. Will be glad to be home. Can't wait to see the train situation on Tuesday when I return to work!

Lost our power again--but this time it turned out to be for only three hours, thankfully. But these outages really screw up your head. Because you don't know the cause or when it will be over, you can't really plan. I was in the middle of cooking dinner and didn't know whether to take the two half-cooked chickens out of the oven and boil them (we dislike boiled) or open the fridge door (which they say you shouldn't do) to store them away for future roasting. We split the difference--now we have a roasted one and a boiled one. Well, there's always soup.

I know, you wonder if it will stay on. Aunt in same town lost it again twice last week after it came back on for a few hours. Waiting to cancel the hotel for tonight until later. The next step is to fill the empty fridge since we had to throw everything out including about $200 worth of stuff in the freezer.
