The song, by Kim Wilde. I was just listening to The Donnas version, and I have to say, that "east California" thing still bothers me 27 years later.
"east California" Nobody says that. Southern California, northern California, yes, but I've never, not once in my life, ever heard anybody say "I'm from eastern California".

You guys are missing the point here, you know. The point is, someone who is a non-American, should never ever be allowed to write a song that has anything to do with being American.
da-da-da-dah da da da-dah, da da da da da da da da dah.
We're the kids, we're the kids, we're the Kids of America!

As far as affectations go it could be worse. I skimmed past MTV yesterday and Craig David was on Cribs. He kept mentioning how he grew up 'in the projects' until he finally slipped out that actually he grew up on a council estate "Which is just like the same sort of thing here." No Craig. It isn't. It really, really isn't.

It's funny you should mention Craig David. This thread set me off thinking about what music most makes me want to hack my own ears off. And Craig David imeediately popped into my head. Ugh.
