I need to add my own Grrr. After a lovely Christmas day, at three in the morning of the 26th, my husband woke up in pain., we were at the emergence room at 5:30 AM and after many tests and a horiffic hour of violent shivers and his not being able to get warm with the four heated blankets on him, he was diagnosed with a bad gall bladder and it was causing an infection causing the shivering. He was finally admitted at 3:30 pm and today, he had his almost gangrenous gall bladder remove. Fever is down, he is resting at hospital and is on antibiotics. Doctor may keep in there until later this week. At least he was able to have the smaller, less invasive surgery. Sorry for the rant, but my nerves are shot and writing this is making me feel a bit calmer.

What a stressful time that must have been for both of you. I'm glad the surgery (sounds like it was laparoscopic...?) was successful. I hope your husband recovers quickly.

Ohhh.... I know what that gallbladder thing is like. Hubby had his removed after bouts of vomiting. He finally took himself to the emergency room and was diagnosed. At the surgery it was supposed to be laproscopic but he wound up having regular surgery since there was a complication. Imagine waking up thinking you are having outpatient surgery to being in ICU hooked up to all kinds of tubes.
Hopefully your hubby's surgery wasn't that complicated and he will be up and about soon. He will feel much better! Lots of folks go around without a gallbladder - hubby doesn't even realize it's gone now.

In solidarity with Hugh, I decided to throw myself down the subway steps Tuesday night and get all sorts of swollen/black-and-blue things going on.
Seriously, I fell down about five subway steps, don't ask me how. I remember falling and saying "just go with it." I must have grazed my head against the side/bannister because my glasses flew off. I finally stopped falling and people did come over to help me. The first thing I said was "is my face ok" because about 10 years ago I fell on the street and hit my face on the pavement and broke my front tooth and needed stitches in my lip, so that was on my mind. Luckily the only thing that seemed to be injured was my left knee, it had a big strawberry. I did get to my train and went to the Urgent Care Center after I got home and the first thing he said was "oh, that's going to be swollen!!" Right on my patella. A contusion on my left ring finger. I thought that was all, but now I have a black eye above my right eyelid and a bruise on the side of my nose (that must have been from when the glasses flew off), my right leg is black and blue in two spots, and the left knee.... oy, the whole knee is black and blue and the strawberry looks lovely.
When I think it could have been so much worse, I could have broken something or hit my head or been knocked out. All these black-and-blues got me thinking if Hugh had any other injuries besides that eye since he smacked into that thing. Probably not since he's in great shape. Meanwhile, I think my puffy coat might have saved me LOL.

Pat, what a scary moment--which must have felt as though time had stopped--that must have been for you. Given that your head was involved, you were very lucky not to have blacked out, suffered neurological injury or gone into shock. I'm glad passers-by helped out. A few years ago I fell at a construction site outside Lincoln Center and nastily injured my knee. I was in so much pain that I felt my body turning clammy and started shaking involuntarily. Fortunately, my husband was with me and helped me to a bench. I hope you recover quickly.

I know, could have been so much worse. My glasses might have saved me from my head being hit as I remember the side of them hitting the banister or wall (whichever it was) and flying off my face. Someone did hand them back to me and they didn't even break! But it did give me the black eye/bruise (which only appeared in the last day). I was really shocked I didn't wind up at the bottom of the steps and stopped at some point.

Pat, I hope you heal quickly. Falling is so not fun! I really feel for you. I just fell into the banister of my basement steps and had an huge bruise from it. I can't imagine all you have from your fall.
OH, and my husband is much better from his surgery, so many, many thanks to all who shared their concern. It was very much appreciated. Love you all!
