Glad you're on the mend Pat. Your description had me cringing just reading about the fall. I think I'm reacting more to the thought of rolling around on ground in the subway than the fall itself.

In solidarity with Hugh, I decided to throw myself down the subway steps Tuesday night and get all sorts of swollen/black-and-blue things going on. Seriously, I fell down about five subway steps, don't ask me how. I remember falling and saying "just go with it." I must have grazed my head against the side/bannister because my glasses flew off. I finally stopped falling and people did come over to help me. The first thing I said was "is my face ok" because about 10 years ago I fell on the street and hit my face on the pavement and broke my front tooth and needed stitches in my lip, so that was on my mind. Luckily the only thing that seemed to be injured was my left knee, it had a big strawberry. I did get to my train and went to the Urgent Care Center after I got home and the first thing he said was "oh, that's going to be swollen!!" Right on my patella. A contusion on my left ring finger. I thought that was all, but now I have a black eye above my right eyelid and a bruise on the side of my nose (that must have been from when the glasses flew off), my right leg is black and blue in two spots, and the left knee.... oy, the whole knee is black and blue and the strawberry looks lovely. When I think it could have been so much worse, I could have broken something or hit my head or been knocked out. All these black-and-blues got me thinking if Hugh had any other injuries besides that eye since he smacked into that thing. Probably not since he's in great shape. Meanwhile, I think my puffy coat might have saved me LOL. Ouch! Get well soon!!

Thanks everyone - I actually wasn't in the subway, I was outside just starting to go down, but it was one of those wider subway steps, not the usual cramped ones so people had plenty of room to maneuver around me!

Pat, what is the brand of your glasses 'cos I wanna have a pair, lol. The roads must be very slippery in NY with all the snow these days, and you said you rush all the time. Glad you didn't have anything serious.

I hope you will get well soon. *Sigh* There are floods here. Again. For about sixth time in past 12 months. This isn´t even funny anymore Even our city is hit this time and that´s something. Our house is on the hill, but my cousin´s house is under water and I think my mum´s hop-field is flooded, too. Half of this damn country is uninsurable because of this.

I hope you'll get better soon, Pat... This week I went back home and slipped too... I almost couldn't move 'cos I had a terrible coccyx ache and I was really frightened 'cos when I was a kid a had very serious injury of my spine. Well it gets better a bit now, but I still walk like if I'm 120 years old... Lenka and everyone who has those floods take care...

Not that you would notice but I won´t be here for few days. I am going to an operation with my injured knee that has been bothering me since Christmas (so I couldn´t go to work ) I am a little worried about it but they say it´s not a difficult thing, it´s not even a real "operation", just an arthroscopy, whatever it means. But for a generally healthy person like me is it something new and unknown so it scares me But I think that from Friday, I will be here all the time because I won´t be able to walk at all Take care, see you on Friday.

An arthroscopy actually is a minimally invasive procedure. The surgeon makes two small incisions, one to put in the video scope (so they can see inside) and the other for the surgical instruments. Then they look at your joints on a video screen, and if there's something they can fix right then and there, they do. Don't sweat it too much, and good luck. Hopefully whatever they do helps.

Thanks, that´s comforting It really doesn´t help when nobody is able to tell you what is going to happen. My doctor only told me when to come to the hospital, nothing else. I just hope I will be able to walk as soon as possible and also fit! I need to go back to work I am going tomorrow morning so I really should go to bed but I am nervous.... See you on Thursday or Friday.

Lenka, I once tore a muscle in my knee and had arthroscopic surgery. My gait was hesitant and I had to go for physical therapy as a follow-up for about three months, but once that was over, everything was fine. Just remember that it takes time to heal, and before you know it you'll be walking just as you always did.

So I am back. What do they want to pay for is beyond me because my experience with the hospital personal is negative. I am still a little dizzy after the anestesia and hungry but it looks like the injury wasn´t so serious as it seemed so I may be OK soon. I even can use that leg, with limitations but I am glad I don´t have to use crutches all the time. Now I just have to find the way how to bath without damaging the bandage. But I still need a day or two to get out of the post operation dizziness. (to think that I am actually able to write something in English at this point makes me very proud )

Glad to hear it went well Lenka. I went to my doctors today for headaches, chest pains, abdominal pains, tiredness and nausea as well as a painful toe and they want to experiment on me again. I'm to have blood tests next week then if those can't show anything they want to trial me on different painkillers. With my toe which has an ingrown toenail I have to see a podiatrist next week which may end up in an operation. I have eczema on my toes which luckily I got more cream for. First time I was experimented on was when I had a knee injury and they ended up giving me an arthroscopy where they cut a piece of muscle away which had got twisted. Last time was when I ended up having to be one of the youngest to have her gallbladder removed.

My mum goes to a biopsy next week She was at the mammographic examination today so I hope it won´t be a breast cancer... I just hate real life sometimes. Everything was OK just 30 minutes ago, it was a perfect day and then she told me Now, I will be worried next few weeks before the results come
