Lovely. And I really do hope he wins the Oscar.

His hands were shaking. Go Eddie. He was great so I hope he wins the Oscar, too. Even though I am torn since I think Michael Keaton was really great, too. It is a very strong run of actors this year again.

I think he was wonderful, but if I were voting, my vote would go to Benedict Cumberbatch for Imitation Game. Same here. As I said before Imitation Game was my favorite this year. It is a well written, superbly acted subtle story of a slice of history most people don't know. No bells and whistles, just a great movie. Finally just got to see it, and I agree. I very much enjoyed it, as a very well-told, triumphant but tragic story. It won't win, and he won't win, but I'm certainly glad I saw it.

Eddie Redmayne was just interviewed on the red carpet by Ryan Seacrest. IMO he's a *tad* nervous even though he said he wasn't. Ryan said the last time he was here he had to sing for Les Mis and Eddie said that was much more nerve-wracking, knowing that he had to sing and just before they went on someone said in their ear "you have a billion people watching...."
I really hope he wins tonight. I expect emotion.

Eddie's acceptance speech - practically perfect, imo: I'd forgotten he got sick the last time and I think it was Sally Field who he was supposed to present with and she told the whole audience!

I think they all wear mikes or something when they are about to perform so if that's true, I'm guessing everyone had one and everyone heard that line in their ear LOL. Or, some guy just yelled it before they went on!

Guessing NPH in his skivvies will be the lasting image from this year's Oscars, for better or worse.

Mostly worse IMHO. I know, at least superficially, it was supposed to be a spoof of BIRDMAN, But I think it was basically a cheap way to remind the audience that It's All About Him.

His opening was fair enough (not as good as Hugh's), but many of his jokes and bits have fallen completely flat. And talk about classless, he joked about the dress of a woman just after she'd spoken tearfully about her son's suicide.

The Octavia Spencer thing is getting old.

He's OK but I don't feel he's going over well- if the in-house crowd is a measure. He had a lot of can do no wrong hype prior. That is hard to live up to.

That Octavia Spencer bit is like if Letterman had gone back to the Uma-Oprah joke about 10 times.
The audience does seem stiff.
Ah, he FINALLY got a good laugh - and seemed relieved - with the John Travolta/Benedict Cumberbatch/Ben Affleck joke. But the John Travolta-Idina Menzel moment itself was even better. "You want me to do it?" lol.

To Australians, skivvies are high necked long sleeved t shirts usually worn with ski gear !! We would describe his underwear as "jocks" or boxer shorts. Either way I'd prefer to see Hugh up there in similar attire although I doubt it will ever happen.

Ha, yeah, I saw a few tweets suggesting that bit would've been better with Hugh, lol. No doubt about it.
BTW, this made me laugh:
Adam McCoy @wedgeshaped 4m4 minutes ago NPH's big reveal will be that all the good jokes were locked in that glass box the whole time #Oscars2015

Opposing points of view:
TheAnglophileChannel @anglophiletv .@ladygaga kicking butt on #SoundOfMusic! Who knew? Well, anyone that heard her do 'Cheek to Cheek' with Tony Bennett.
Two from Deadline:
Dominic Patten Look Julie Andrews can’t do it any more but having Lady Gaga doing ‘The Sound Of Music’ Is that because the Oscar producers, who produced NBC’s Sound Of Music live, couldn’t get a repeat performance out of Carrie Underwood? The crowd in the Dolby obviously loved it but the demo at home who cares have long since gone to sleep or out clubbing. Justin Bieber coming out to sing Edelweiss next? And now Julie Andrews has blessed it all, ugh!
Mike Fleming Lady Gaga medley-ing Sound of Music. Like hot needles through the eyes.

I'm really happy the Imitation Game won for Best Adapted Screenplay, I was afraid it would get shut out. Love the enthusiasm and the speech by the writer.
