Hugh gives props to his fellow Ozzie (Aussie?) - wonder if he voted for MM:
Hugh Jackman @realhughjackman Ms. Cate Blanchette... richly deserved. 2nd #Oscars . So proud.

Well, two quick glimpses of Hugh from The Wolverine, in the hero's segment, I almost did not expect even that. Not the most iconic images IMO. But I nitpick. As soon as it started with Captain America's shield, I knew it was going to be heavy on Disney's Marvel property, so I was actually sort of surprised he was in it at all. But yes, rising out of the water tank or running through the cell block were definitely more iconic than being an arrow pincushion or flying along the bullet train. Still, yes, we nitpick. I fell asleep after Bette Midler, and I see that there were zero surprises in any of the big awards. I haven't seen the last speeches (I enjoyed Lupita Nyongo's), or read any critiques of the show, but as far as I can tell, Ellen handing out pizza and asking Harvey Weinstein to pay for it was the most only memorable moment of the whole night. And I'm sure that was scripted.

My husband and I commute together, and I learned on the way to work how much he LOOVED Ellen as host. He thought she was really funny and particularly enjoyed the bit about Jennifer Lawrence's stumble in the opening monologue (was anybody else wondering if she might mention Hugh in that?). Okay, he's entitled to his opinion, LOL.
Also, I felt bad for Nick Hoult, who was awkwardly omitted when Ellen invited Lawrence and Bradley Cooper - seated on either side of him - to join the famous selfie. Well, I think he'll be a big star in his own right pretty soon.

I'm also glad for Cate and that Lupita Nyong’o won and not J. Lawrence again. I haven't seen the show and won't see it either, so I can't comment on Ellen or anything else. I'm just glad that Hugh wasn't there, so I can skip it this year.
I admit that I loved Leo when I was a teenager. lol It was the time around "Romeo & Juliet" and of course "Titanic". lol I've also loved him in "Gilbert Grape" and in one of his first movies with DeNiro and Ellen Barkin. Even as a very young actor he was great. Then I've lost a little bit of interest in him and I became a Hugh fan, but I still like Leo very much as actor. I think he is one of the greatest actors of his generation and he doesn't need weight losses and lots of make-up etc. to be convincing in a role. I don't care for his private life and all his model girlfriends, it's none of my business and it shouldn't influence any award decisions, but unfortunately it obviously does. When we speak of Oscar snubs, he is the one who was "robbed" so many times, and what this year happened is a shame imo. I also feel sorry for his fans right now.

Imagine Hugh in that selfie LOL. I will fast-forward tonight since I want to see that "heroes" thing and catch the reactions of the winners, except for MM (although I had the TV on this morning and they showed his acceptance speech - remote too far away to mute LOL).

I think Ellen was stronger earlier in the show. She had a few good bits later, but the pizza thing seemed lame and derivative (I must have seen that done before but can't remember where) and some of the humor seemed forced, eliciting mostly silence from the audience. Still, overall, not bad at all. I chuckled mightily at John Travolta's mangling of poor Idina Menzel's name until I remembered that he's dyslexic. He once said that Scientology "cured" him of that LD. If so, he needs a booster session.

Can I just appreciate how stunning Charlize Theron looked? I think she officially became my female crush. I don´t know how she does that but...wow!

I know it's weird to project my feelings about it on him, but I'm hoping Hugh was relaxing at home last evening, after his whirlwind Vegas trip - watching the Oscars or maybe not - and feeling mostly glad not to be there.

Okay, so MM's been in a lot of crappy movies before, and THAT was a check mark in the "he should win" column. Yes, poor Leo. Apparently, he's just been in too many good films.

I know we're complaining because of Hugh, but think of the poor Leo fans and what they must think. Imagine if it was Hugh nominated so many times and not winning!

Yes. I definitely feel for Leo's fans. In common, they both suffer from "pretty face" syndrome. MM is just different-looking enough, apparently. I've never been smitten with Leo, but I remember being flabbergasted at how he disappeared into the character of Howard Hughes in The Aviator. And Blood Diamond was amazing as well. And he loses for those because Jamie Foxx and Forrest Whitaker got roles of a lifetime. I think voters tend to think "he'll have a lot of other chances".

He will have a lots of other chances until the point when he won´t...the will keep nominating him and then give him a lifetime achievement Oscar in his 70s...

If all it takes is a lot of not very well-received movies on one's resume followed by some really good ones, well, the case could be made that Hugh is definitely an eventual Oscar winner. Now all he has to do is lose or gain 60 pounds.

I saw an article suggesting Kevin Spacey. I think he would be excellent.

I am not sure why the host should be "edgy". Do they think people will watch it in hope that those famous, rich people will get insulted by nasty things said into their faces? I thought Oscars used to be about a celebration of movies. The host should be classy. Yes, saying a few jokes but those jokes don´t have to be nasty, sarcastic and offensive. What is going on? Is this a context about "who will be more snarky?" or what?
