In the podcast, it was just really funny how he and O'Neil both wrote it off but Stone is like super into it thinking it'll be amazing.

That's the difference between Anne Thompson/Kris Tapley and Jeffrey Wells/Sasha Stone. Wells and Stone have no interest in Les Miserables so they can't be bothered to inform themselves (Tom O'Neill has been busy TV awards and I don't think he's really got started on Oscars, so I'll give him a pass). At least it shows how little these people know. In this article about the new release date, Kris Tapley mentions that he didn't like the teaser.

I've no problem with Kris Tapley not liking the teaser because it hasn't stopped him talking about the film in a reasonable manner.

There's also the possibility that at least one of the end-of-year releases could slip. My money would be on Django Unchained. I haven't verified any of this but I've read that it was still filming a month ago, the editor died unexpectedly and the Weinsteins have a couple of strong Oscar contenders already.
At least Les Miserables is a big film that's different from the competition so it should be a "must-see" for the voters.

A little late to the party, but I agree with the analysis that it makes no difference to have Les Mis released 10 days earlier or later, if it is meant to be seen by the voters, it will be seen, and the later they see it, the longer its impact stays. BO is more important in my view, and I'd much rather see it compete against Django than The Hobbit.

Good luck to all the heavy hitters but Hugh just might blow you away. ;D

According to just about everyone else, he has no chance for a nod since the movie didn't stick at all.

Interesting, according to Wells and some IMDB guys, Lincoln had a test screening and it WAS NOT received well at all stating some miscastings and saying the movie is too slow. Interesting!

That annoys me. This nominations just for "who he/she is". Many award worthy performances are not recognized just because they have some kind of an obligation to nominate someone. And I prefer Hugh´s acting, where he can say a million words only with his eyes before this "I completely became a character and wanted them to call me by my character´s name of set" thing.

Granted its not like DDL gives a horrid performance and gets nominated every time. If its good then it's good and he won't be nominated if his performance sucks. Just because his actin style isn't personally preferred, it's a performance that people think is worthy and so far I agree with all the nods that he's gotten. If he truly just gets nods for being him then he would have gotten one for Nine as well, now that would have been unfair but he didn't.
I think people here are freaking out too much about Hugh's actin nod. If its great it WILL be recognized, both the movie and him. Just keep in mind as of now it's sight unseen so of course pundits are going to predict more proven actors over Hugh.

Anthony Hopkins has been one of my favourites since I was a teenager so I rather hope he'll be nominated. I'd like Hugh to get nominated but only if he deserves it. I haven't seen enough to judge.
I'm more annoyed that the nominations will be announced before I get to see Les Mis.
