Prediction updates from Oscar Derby. Les Mis now climbing into 4th place. Not sure why Silver Linings jumped to the top in only 48 hours. www.goldderby.com/odds/experts/56/

Absolutely. While it's thrilling to see Hugh get a nomination, if there are better performances out there, then by all means the award should go to the most fitting. My only disappointment would come from someone also from Les Mis, like Russell or Eddie, being recognised while Hugh isn't, because that would mean that they de facto did better than Hugh under the same film circumstances, equipped with the same acting toolset.
Btw, Joaquin Phoenix has good chances this year. He's as good as anyone and I feel he has been deserving a win ever since Gladiator.

Completely separate from Hugh, I genuinely feel that if Les Miserables turns out as well as it currently looks, it is a motion picture for the ages - an absolutely classic. Everything else getting buzz seems negative, angry, off center ... all very interesting, but are we going to want to re-watch any of them five years from now?

Hugh has a lot to be proud of but I will not mind any Oscar Awards.

Latest episode of Oscar Poker and Les Mis is mentioned at about 39:00 - Sasha Stone says it looks like Hugh, Anne and Amanda are "at a level 10" and "if the movie is as good as the trailer, there's your best picture winner." www.awardsdaily.com/podcasts/oscarpoker/episode93.mp3

I won't listen to the podcast, so did they say anything interesting about Hugh? Thanks.

Sasha says she just found out that it's all-singing (one of the other guys didn't know that), so it will be like "The Artist" - what? She did say though it was an actor's movie and the Academy is dominated by actors and every actor loves Les Mis, it's an incredible cast and would have to "really suck" to not do well and will probably come in with the most nominations.

I missed that! That's what comes from trying to listen while I work. Ah, I understand now. I listened to a podcast with Sasha and Tom O'Neil but I posted a link to a different one. The Tom O'Neil one is embedded in today's post at www.awardsdaily.com/

I still think I want to see the movie, but this review was a riot.
