My brother's moving to Portland soon, so I'm watching Grimm with the thought of visiting him. I'll need a raincoat but it looks good. I'm liking the multiple plots - I realised that the last episode I watched had at least three other threads apart from the case of the week. The only trouble is that it's so time-consuming.

I think that when I am looking at new filming photos of Doctor Who and singing "Game of Thrones" to it, I seriously need to get a life I usually get home very late so I have only a few hours of free time to *get* a life but the new photos are here, looking fantastic... Anyway, new series of Game of Thrones started and so far, it didn´t disappoint. It also seems that main actresses refused to take their clothes off so they have to use extras to do it (I can´t say I am sorry, they often overused the nudity just because they could use it). I still want to read books but I couldn´t get even through book 1...I love reading but I just finished one very big book (It by Stephen King) and by the time I finished reading it, I had six more books to read. I can´t imagine what would happen with five Game of Thrones books...

I can´t imagine what would happen with five Game of Thrones books... We watched Sunday's episode of GOT last night. They managed to build the tension really well, didn't they? I kind of wished a sword had been involved, but never mind. Now I'm angry at myself for going on-line and reading articles, including one where somebody has supposedly figured out who the culprit is. My husband's read all but the last book, and he doesn't even know.

I actually couldn´t resist and went to find some spoilers. But not all of it. I still think I can get to read the books eventually but now I just hope Martin finishes it before he dies (sorry but I can´t be the only who thinks that!) And yes, a sword would be nice...I think he got out very easy but well...

Watched the first episode of Fargo last night. Wow! I'm still trying to understand why they chose to do a TV series, which is very similar in look and tone to the movie, but I suppose it's been done before, with Friday Night Lights. Or even MASH and others way back when, although that had the same characters and this one is different with SIMILAR characters. Martin Freeman is essentially the William H. Macy character, for instance.
Anyway. Excellent cast, Billy Bob Thornton is way creepy but funny, and I will tune in weekly. Not sure how they can sustain it for a series. But it's just a 10-episode series. I like this idea of short-run shows telling a whole, all-encompassing story and not feeling any obligation to extend the story to future seasons. Homeland would have been much better if it had been like that and just ended after one season.
We've also checked out the first two episodes of "Turn", the Revolutionary War spy drama on AMC. Interesting so far despite the extreme stereotype of some of the sadistic Brits - hey, you must have good villains! - but it's a little too grimly earnest for my tastes. I hope it lightens up at least a tiny bit at some point, or it'll quickly drop to the bottom of my DVR recordings, what with all the good shows back on suddenly, GOT, Mad Men, etc.
Silicon Valley is a new HBO comedy that we're enjoying, as well as the return of Veep and Nurse Jackie. Meanwhile, I've taken up some old shows I've seen mentioned here, via Netflix, whenever I have some time to myself ... Once Upon A Time and Arrow. LOL, sounds like I watch too much TV!

I'm through the first two series of Grimm and I'm hooked but not so much that I'll pay £1.99 per episode to catch up on season 3. It will be available for "free" in my package soon enough.
I'm having a hard time getting into Once Upon a Time. I don't like the actual fairy tale parts and a lot of the acting is awkward. Even my favourite, Robert Carlyle, is in OTT mode. How long should I give it?
Arrow - that's available so maybe I'll try that soon.
True Detectives - I got as far as episode 3 but it's a bit of a slog. I don't dislike it but other things have a stronger pull.
Meanwhile, new Mad Men and Game of Thrones, so much a lot of time for anything else. Episode 2 of GoT was a bit of a shocker! I can hardly wait until Monday to find out who's behind it.
For Christmas, I was given a Kindle Fire and one of the great things about it is that it's integrated with the other Amazon services that I was already a subscriber too. This includes "free" streaming of many tv series. The only problem is time.

I would really give True Detective a chance, it gets much much less sloggier in a real hurry, as in episode 4. I was more intrigued by the first episode of Arrow than the first couple of Once Upon A Time, but these are both shows that I put on while I'm doing something else on my computer, I don't need to give them my full attention, a la Game Of Thrones. Yes, a bit of a shocker is right!

wombat - Season 3 of Grimm is great, and I think much better than season 2 (I hated the Juliette amnesia thing). There were really a few nice twists in last couple of episodes...so you have definitely something to look forward to. I actually gave up on Arrow. I don´t don´t Season 2. I think I will watch it as a complete season after it ends but I have big problems to like any of the characters, maybe due to the actors who are, with some exceptions, pretty terrible Especially some of the actresses, tbh. I finished "Hustle" recently and I am in that "What now" state. I don´t want to start something new (which is terribly time consuming) but to rewatch old things is not a proper fun. Maybe I will just watch some movies instead, I have plenty of them waiting. Or I could try "The Thick of It" again. Episodes have only 30 minutes, Peter Capaldi is fantastic in it (and the rest of the cast, too) and even though it is not the most cheerful experince by the end of season 4, it is still awesome

One of my guilty pleasures is "Call the Midwife". On the surface, it sounds awfully twee but it has good characters, a strong cast and deals with important issues. I keep thinking how my mother would have liked it as it's set in her era (late fifties when she was a young mother of 3-4 children), though she lived in a more affluent area. I'd like to be able to talk to her about it to find out how much is as she remembers.

England has always had a more active midwife program even until today than the US, but the attitudes towards women and pregnancy are very much the same. I just love the characters and the different elements of society that they bring together. The other PBS show that I loved and that now is back for a second season is "The Bletchley Circle". Another great view of the time period and the women who were highly valued in WW II only to be sent back to be housewives afterwards, combined with a great mystery. Then there is the amazing in Tatiana Maslany as six characters (so far) in Orphan Black.

Oh, my mom recommended The Bletchley Circle to me, but she can never remember the name (but got it close enough that I figured it out from your description). I'll have to check it out.

A little timeout from X-Men overload in honor of Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage was fantastic in this week's episode. Tyrion is such a great character, and he rocks it. I got a chuckle (and he did, too) when apparently somebody in the DoFP press conference last week asked Dinklage how it is to play a villain in two different franchises. Clearly, the person asking the question knows nothing about Game of Thrones, since Tyrion is the most heroic, principled character in the show! Here is it, oh, it wasn't a question but the panel moderator who said that. I included McAvoy's quip because, well, McAvoy. www.upi.com/Entertainment_News/Movies/2014/05/12/Peter-Dinklage-talks-Nixon-connection-in-X-Men-movie/7771399909335/

Let's hear it for Tyrion. Maybe the interviewer only watched the first few episodes of season 1. I believe the big reveal that he wasn't the bad guy was when he suggested a special saddle for Bran. I've just realised that I haven't watched the latest episode so it sounds like I have something to look forward to.

"Highfallutin"! Always wondered how that was spelled... I use "fancy and important" in many instances where "highfallutin" would serve quite nicely... We are sort of loving Fargo but haven't completely decided

We are sort of loving Fargo but haven't completely decided That's exactly the way we feel about Fargo, but it's just a short series, I think, so I'll happily take it to the end and decide then. Billy Bob Thornton is skeezy good (as he so often is).

Billy Bob Thornton is skeezy good (as he so often is). I too like the limited number of episodes... then you get a real story that has a true arc and everything. Sometimes I feel like some shows just keep going for the sake of going and then they "jump the shark" and end on not a great note. I think "24" had a very good concept where the season was a complete story, then they could decide if they wanted to do another day in the life or not. Speaking of, I'm loving having the hardened Jack Bauer back!

Ugh, yes Dexter was like that. Big Love. Many, many shows. Homeland has gotten that way. And some shows get cancelled too soon, and you never get a decent ending! Rome, Deadwood, Carnivale. It's the rare show like Breaking Bad that can end at the perfect point and leave you perfectly satisfied. We watch Nurse Jackie, but it seems they've run out of ways to tell the same story over and over. I still like Mad Men, but it's worrying me a bit, too, right now. Too full of symbolism and its own importance. Just tell the story, damn it.
I watched one or two seasons of 24 - always liked Kiefer, but I liked his dad first, lol - but my husband just couldn't stand it, so it got to be not worth recording it and spending my self time watching it alone. I haven't tried out the new version either.

I thought Tyrion was a good guy the moment he slapped that brat Joffrey. At that point, Joffrey was just a brat...later, he was a bastard king. He really was brilliant. Did anybody really expect him to behave when he got a chance to tell everybody what he thought?
I am seriously beginning to hate Cersei and it is not the "good" hate. I can´t help but even like Tywin here and there (mostly due to Charles Dance´s brilliant performance) but Cersei is just careless. She doesn´t give a damn about anything or anybody. I used to think she was just frustrated because she thought she deserved to be the most regarded of Lannister children but wasn´t because she was a woman. But really...it is as if she expected Sansa (who DID not kill Joffrey, even thought I thought it should have been her) to behave after they killed almost her entire family. My favourite remain Tyrion, Arya and Jamie (and Brienne). They are the most interesting characters and also the actors are brilliant.

You're only "beginning" to hate her, ha! Man, she's evil although, there was that whole controversial rape scene, and I don't think even she deserved that. I would agree with all of those. Jamie's gone down a notch in my estimation, partly because of the aforementioned rape, but mostly because his short hairstyle this year renders him a lot less attractive than when he was a prisoner last year, LOL. Yes, I feel shallow. Only problem with the show is that when it gets to Daenarys ... or Stannis ... or Theon ... or Jon Snow, I really can't wait for it to get back to somebody I care about. At least there was no Jon Snow this week. But also no Arya or Brienne.
