I am so glad that Hugh doesn´t have a movie out right now so I don´t have to follow another exahausting world tour. Doctor Who started a huge world tour (I still can´t believe they did it) and after watching an awkward life stream from South Korea, I have to say...the actors going there deserve their money for just the happy faces they are able to maintain even when they think "What the hell is going on?" Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are incredibly well matched, btw.

I just caught a repeat of the first episode of "Outlander" on Starz, and I'm hooked! Right up my alley - period piece and romance! Apparently the series is based on books. Preview: www.starz.com/originals/outlander

Looks interesting. Maybe I'll check it out as well, assuming there's another re-air. Supposedly, Laura Donnelly (from The River) has a role in this show, too, although she's evidently not among the main cast of characters.

The two stars are on the cover of this week's TV Guide and the article inside says there are 16 episodes (this is a lot for a cable show) split into two halves - the first ends in September after 8 episodes and then starts again in January. I have to have the closed-captioning on as I watch as I can't understand some of those Scottish accents/words!

I just put the first book on hold from my local library consortium so I can read it on my IPad - there's six copies available and there are 128 holds ahead of me LOL.

Looks fascinating. I'm sure we all thought of a certain scene in THE PRESTIGE upon viewing that second or two of the water torture cell in the trailer.

Oooh, looks like the first Outlander episode is available free on-line from the Starz site. I just watched it for the second time to see what I missed, now that I knew what was coming. I do that a lot with many of my favorite shows since I usually don't "catch" some things the first time around, but after I know what's coming I can look for the clues (which is why I like to read the last page of a book first LOL).

Ha. You and my dad. And I see my daughter reading the last pages of books now, too. It skipped a generation in my family because I don't like knowing the endings of things. But I do have this thing where I have to watch almost everything with closed captioning on, even when it's NOT some weird funky accent, just so I catch every word and know how to spell character names, etc etc. Seeing a movie in a theater tests that, LOL. Although in movies like, say Step Up All In, which my 15-yo made me go see with her yesterday, the dialogue matters little. Still, I'm happy to take her to see what she wants because a) I'm just happy she still wants to go places with me and b) Les Mis.

BTW, I watched about 5 minutes of that episode on-line and decided my husband might be interested in watching it, too, so I stopped and will record it. #luckythatway

It seems that all my favorite shows are period, historical, or sappy - Outlanders, The White Queen, The Tudors, Vikings, Sleepy Hollow, When Calls the Heart, Bates Motel, anything on Hallmark Channel... and let's not forget, Kate & Leopold is the one that turned me on to Hugh.

I like period shows ... we watch Boardwalk Empire, loved Deadwood, and I want to give this new Cinemax show "The Knick" a try, but the ones we watch are often relentlessly grim. I think I'd like a little sappiness for a change.

Laura Donnelly *is* in this, although not yet, and according to TV Guide, she plays Jamie's younger sister. Jamie is the Scot in the past - he kidnaps our heroine with others after she goes back in time and I think it's obvious what's going to happen there.....

Not my favourite genre either but yes, Sean Bean. And it seems he may even stay alive in this one

I've been watching far too much tv recently, some good, some bad.
The Good: Orphan Black! A thriller with a touch of Sci-Fi. I don't want to say much about it but recommended.
The Bad: Extant. Some nice production so I kept watching despite the unconvincing characters but by episode 4 or 5 it was just too absurd. There's better stuff to waste my time on.
Promising: Broadchurch - this is british police procedural/drama. A young boy is found dead in a small seaside resort. 8 episodes. With David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, Arthur Darville ("Rory" from Doctor Who)and the man who plays the caretaker in the Harry Potter movies. It won lots of BAFTAs earlier this year.
I don't think Outlander is available over here but I'll look out for it.

I think "Extant" (with Halle Berry) is on the verge of cancellation, and "Outlander" was just renewed for a second season even though only one episode has aired here.
