I've been watching far too much tv recently, some good, some bad. The Good: Orphan Black! A thriller with a touch of Sci-Fi. I don't want to say much about it but recommended. The Bad: Extant. Some nice production so I kept watching despite the unconvincing characters but by episode 4 or 5 it was just too absurd. There's better stuff to waste my time on. Promising: Broadchurch - this is british police procedural/drama. A young boy is found dead in a small seaside resort. 8 episodes. With David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, Arthur Darville ("Rory" from Doctor Who)and the man who plays the caretaker in the Harry Potter movies. It won lots of BAFTAs earlier this year. I don't think Outlander is available over here but I'll look out for it. Orphan Black is an excellent series and the lead actress playing ALL of the lead women is amazing. Broadchurch in the British version was excellent. They are redoing it as an American series which even with David Tenant throws a question mark. Rarely do the Brits with only a few exceptions translate well. As an Outlander book fan, I'm hoping it runs forever. New series Rush is holding up well while Legends and Extant are not.

I watched Broadchuch in premiere last year. It was very thrilling and at one point, I thought the whole town did it I know it caused a little madness in the internet about "Who killed Danny Latimer?!" I didn´t see it coming until about 30 minutes before the end. David Tennant was good but I never really got used to his style of acting but he certainly picked well here. I am curious about "Gracepoint", which should be US remake but from the original creator with Tennant in a role of an American (!) detective. I heard his American accent... Olivia Colman was brilliant. I think she is a female version of John Simm. She is everywhere and she is also great everywhere. The only differenc is that Olivia already got some awards while poor John has a lots of nominations... Her role in Gracepoint should have Anna Gunn, who, I think, is perfect for a role of working mother who happens to be a detective. I am generally against US remakes of UK shows but this has an original team on board. But they will have to change the ending so I am not sure if the impact will be the same.

For those who can access Facebook, there is a Gracepoint page. Apparently the original author wrote several different endings and they will be using a different one for the American version. The thing I really like about British shows is that the women look like real people. On American shows they often look way too pretty/perfect to be believable.

Which is one reason why I hope Alison Tolman wins an emmy for her great work in Fargo. Among a cast of well-known actors, she more than held her own.
btw, sorry to see you have written off Legends already. I haven't seen it yet and will still check it out though. At least it's not on a regular network and shouldn't get pulled after a handful of eps. That's half the reason I rarely bother with network dramas anymore. Like Extant seemed mildly intriguing tome. But why invest if chances are good it will be gone in a couple of months. I also think the networks need to figure out how to help people get caught up on shows that catch a little buzz, in case you missed the first few. I know there is often an online viewing option these days, but I still prefer regular tv and love it when cable channels have multiple airings and mini marathons to recap the last 3 eps or whatever.

My mum loves good detective stories but hates most of the US "detective" shows mostly because of this - there are a lots of women detectives but she says they are not real. Running around on high heels, looking like supermodels, is not how a normal woman looks, especially in such stressful job. It doesn´t mean they shouldn´t care how they look (especially sine they talk to people) but when I recently saw an episode of some TV show where that woman had those thin, high heels, trying to get herself through grass, I thought it really looked ridiculous.

Another one of my favorite shows is Graceland on USA Network on Wednesdays at 10:00. Aaron Tviet is pretty good as an FBI undercover agent.

Still enjoying Outlander after two episodes.
Swamped by several good shows at the moment. We enjoyed the first episode of The Knick, with Clive Owen. Missed the first couple of episodes of Manhattan and The Honorable Woman (Maggie Gyllenhaal), but I see both of them are airing mini-marathons this weekend to help people catch up, so yay.

It already has a good feel to it half way into episode one.

I've ordered the first book from my local library for my IPad and I'm only no. 128 on the "hold" list LOL. And I can't wait until Sleepy Hollow starts, love that show.

I watched the first two episodes of The Knick and liked it except that it's too graphic -- way to much cutting and blood, but I just look away. I think it's an interesting premise and I like Clive Owen so I'll see how it develops. I like The Outlander and I've found a new appreciation for red-headed men who have never been attractive to me before.

Yes, I know two sites where you can download Australian series online either on the same day they aired in Australia or only a day later. But I don't know anything about the legislation of sharing torrent sites on this page here. And I'm not going to post them here, because these sites need to keep a low profile or they might disappear for good. And I only watch Australian series, so the disappearance of these sites would be a disaster for me. Anyone who wants the links can PM me. They might turn up online as well though, once it has aired. Since it airs on ABC, it's probably a more serious series (also stated in the article). But hopefully it turns out to be a hit, just like Anzac Girls for ABC now.

I'm not a torrent user, for various reasons, so I' ll pass on that and see if it ever shows up through more official channels. Got plenty of other shows to work my way through!

Nice! I wonder how long it'll take for it to show up. Oh, woops. It'll be aired on DirecTV. As I get my TV via their main competitor, it's safe to say I won't be seeing it anytime soon. Oh, well.

Oh that's a shame, but I'm sure you'll find another way to watch it. Like I said, if it does well, it'll probably appear online as well.

I think after 8 months watching the filming and two weeks long promotional tour, I have to admit, I have Doctor Who overdose I went to cinema to see the pilot episode, all is great, Peter Capaldi is fantastic, but I think I will just have to get the rest of episodes of Defiance and Continuum or I will go mad. I would have never thought that some TV show can get me that much...especially since I have been a DW fan since 2007...that´s Peter Capaldi effect, I guess

Really well-done In Memoriam segment on the Emmys tonight, leading into Billy Crystal's tribute to Robin Williams. Best part of the evening so far.
Meanwhile, relieved that MM did not win. While I enjoyed him on that show, it would have been all too much.

Ditto re MM. I was getting annoyed how successive presenters were practically bowing down to him. At first I felt I was being petty, then decided: nah. Glad he lost. I thought there would be more film clips of Robin Williams but I guess time constraints applied. And Crystal was perfect in tone and substance. Getting tired of Jim Parsons' annual wins for essentially playing a slight variation of himself.
