I don't have Cinemax or Showtime, so I'll have to wait for the DVDs. They made the first episode of "The Knick" available elsewhere, so that got me hooked, darn it. Now it's going to seem like a long wait. Curses to that clever enticement marketing!

Here is Liev's bad drunken dancing scene. There are worse ways to spend a minute and a half:

It seems tha everything is connected. I've just read that Outlander was inspired by a character in Doctor Who. That has to be "Jamie", a young highlander who became a companion of Patrick Troughton's Doctor and was my favourite when I was eight.

I didn´t know this I got first two episodes of "Intruders" so I am going to watch it tonight (with a proper atmosphere). I am curious to hear John Simm with an American accent

Ok, I am TOTALLY addicted to "Outlander" four episodes in (Jamie... swoon!!!!). And the titles of the upcoming episodes (especially episode 7!) intrigue me! I just read they made 16 episodes and it will be a split season, one ending in September and then starting up in January. It's already been renewed for a second season.

If it is a major hit, it will be around for awhile since there are eight books to get through

Colin Farrell confirmed for Season 2 of True Detective: www.totalfilm.com/news/colin-farrell-confirmed-for-true-detective-season-2Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams still linked. Justin Lin will be directing the first two episodes. Wasn't he a possible director for the "Section 6" film ... wonder where that thing stands, last I heard it was in some legal battle with the Broccoli family over its similarity to Bond.

The New Yorker's reviewer changed her mind AFTER SEVEN EPISODES (correction, she changed her mind between the seventh and tenth episode!) and has now decided she likes The Knick. Heh, I never give a show I don't like that much of a second chance, but I'm not a professional reviewer. I can't see how Clive Owen won't get Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his work in this show. www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/changed-mind-knick

Now I might have to go back and watch the thing. I dropped it like a hot rock after four episodes because as she says Clive Owen's character was "the brilliant and near-total asshole Dr. Thackeray, a.k.a. Thack". I don't always mind characters that I hate, but the writing was a turn off despite Owen's great acting. Anyway, back to cringing.

Thack has gotten a lot lot more interesting, and I definitely don't hate him. I just found out that Eve Hewson, who plays Nurse Lucy Elkins, is Bono's daughter. Which on the one hand bugs me because ... well, I guess I prefer stories of struggling actors who make it while those who are born to famous people seem like they have an automatic advantage. But on the other hand, she is really talented and it's nice if she can make a name for herself. I guess she normally has an Irish accent, but she plays a not-so-innocent Kentucky girl in this show quite well. But why are you cringing?

The Knick starts showing here later this month, so maybe I'll give it a go.
I watched the first episode of "Forever" this week. I like Ioan Gruffudd and it's rather nice to hear him with a welsh accent for a change. It hasn't really had enough time to get going yet.

The Knick is not easy at first and obviously turns some people off. I enjoy the scientific aspect as well as the period nature of it but mostly the characters.

BTW, I see that Eve Hewson (Bono's daughter) made it into People's print edition 2-page spread of pictures from the Global Citizen festival. No photos of Hugh, however, which seems absurd.

Finally got all caught up on Manhattan viewing, with only two episodes left. Some of it has been absolutely great, but at other times it feels like it's conjuring up soap opera tales to add twists which might justify extending it for another season, if there is one. I will say that the nameless character (okay, apparently he does have a name, "Occam", according to IMDb) played by Richard Schiff has got to be one of the vilest, creepiest characters on TV. It makes it harder to handle since I loved Schiff's character Toby Ziegler so much on The West Wing.

I saw him on stage once in UNDER THE LINTEL. He was very effective and really got to the audience. A good actor makes you love or hate him, as required. You don't want to be in Schiff's interrogation room, that's for sure. (I'm pretty sure "Occam" is a nod to Occam's Razor: the dictum that the simplest explanation is usually the truth in any problem.)
The show is a melange of science and soap, but I find it fascinating. Although that silly Abby character is driving me nuts with her stupidity. Watch out, Charlie!

Good acting, for sure. I don't see Toby there at all, he's SO NASTY. And yes, Abby is pretty silly, I wondered why the cosmopolitan French neighbor fell for her, but perhaps she seems gullible or malleable. Okay, tagging this part just in case somebody hasn't seen the latest episode: {Spoiler} The way they pulled the rug out from under our understanding of Frank's wife is intriguing. Is she really crazy, or is he keeping her in line by feeding her phenobarbital, LOL. Yikes, surely she wasn't hallucinating the cleaning water from the scrub-down of the contaminated men just going straight out of the drain onto the ground. That was scary. A lot of it is scary. Of course, it's fiction, but a lot of the back-stabbing political and unflexible military stuff rings true.

Ellen, what did you think of the last episode of Manhattan? Nicely set up for Season 2, I hope more people watch it.
Also, we've been sticking it out through the last season of Boardwalk Empire, even though the one character I cared the most about (Richard) was killed off at the end of last season. But wow .... the slaughter has been worse than anything Game of Thrones has to offer. One more episode to go.

Nice twists and turns there. Early on, when Frank sees some kind of recording device in the closet (I guessed correctly), I was wondering what the payoff would be; didn't expect it would involve Charlie. And that final scene in the lobby--whoa! Was not expecting that. Looking forward to next season.
I know BOARDWALK is not exactly considered water-cooler watching, but I've been riveted to this series since it began. I wonder what fate will befall the main protagonist/antagonist, Nucky, next week. (He is a complicated creature, isn't he?) All the characters are so well drawn. I'd like to see Steven Buscemi and Stephen Graham (Al Capone) get Emmy nominations for this season.
