But I was surprised not to see STAR WARS, as it was such a popular, rousing adventure. I thought they'd make up for the lack of THE DARK KNIGHT last year; guess not. Blank stared... Star Trek you mean?

I must have been time-warped back to 1977. Oops--yes, of course. I meant to type STAR TREK, thanks.

In the year of Avatar, there's no need to make up for omission of The Dark Knight. I thought Star Trek was ok but hardly a Best Picture nominee. Anyway, with District 9, they have have two sci-fi films.
This will be the first Oscars where I've actually seen more than one of the films. I'm happy with either Avatar or The Hurt Locker winning. I've always liked Jeff Bridges so if he wins Best Actor, that's ok. Good to see Jeremy Renner in there. I need to see An Education but it's long gone from the theatres and the DVD isn't out until March.

I hadn't intended seeing it, in fact I knew nothing about it, but it was the only movie which fitted in with my spare time one weekend so I bought a ticket and went in not knowing what to expect. I've done this before and walked out early, but in this case I came out thinking that was one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's not the sort of movie which needs a big screen to impress, so I hope those of you who missed it at the cinema, get to enjoy it on DVD. Cheers.

An Education is really true to life and all about teenage innocence, good stuff. I dl the screener Wombat, if you want me to upload it I can! I know bad bad on my part but all the movies except for Avatar that I've mentioned I have the screeners for so if anyone wants me to upload anything, I can.

Big shocker of the day: No X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE on the Best Picture Oscar nominees list, LOL. OMG! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! ;D I was kinda disappointed that the Lovely Bones only got one nomination. At least it appeared to be only one on telly here.

An odd couple and a pointless remake. *shrugs* I usually like Hugh´s costars, except maybe Christian Bale and Scarlett but I didn´t find my way to Beyoncé. She wasn´t his movie co-star, so I didn´t have a chance to see her in a real movie scene but I think she should stick with singing and leave acting to someone else. I should be angry about this but a remake of A Star is Born? Why?

Something to keep in mind if Anne Hathaway is ever in a movie with Hugh - Greatest Showman possibly? And isn't Jennifer Garner supposed to do that romcom with Hugh? The art of movie kissing - and check out these photos! www.theimproper.com/?p=3572

So I just watched Enchanted. It was a cute movie. I like Amy Adams. She has also an amazing voice. And James Marsden was hilarious. ;D I sooo want him or Amy to do a movie with Hugh. (and no, Cyclops and Wolverine doesn´t count) But I have to admit, I kept picturing Hugh in a role of Robert. I think it´s some kind of an obsession. Or maybe even James would be better than non-charismatic Patrick Dempsey. No wonder that he has problems to get out of a TV world. But then I think it was a very good, crazy movie. Very relaxing for Saturday afternoon.

I just saw Nine. And this is not the thread for it, I totally don't recommend it. Sure it's well made, the musical numbers are dazzling but MAN WHAT AN UNLIKABLE MAIN CHARACTER!!!! I felt absolutely NOTHING for DDL's Guido. The film gives us no reason to care. Having said that, Rob Marshall really does know how to put on some entertaining musical sequences and Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard churn in great performances, as does Sophia Loren and Judi Dench in their small roles. But other than those reasons, definite disappointment.

I was only two when that happened, but I know about it being a diehard Yankee fan. It would be hysterical seeing those two HAVE to wear pinstripes.
I have a book - 100 reasons to love the Yankees and 10 reasons to hate the Red Sox - and Ben Affleck is #6 on the reasons to hate the Sox.
Also, Jack Nicholson, a life-long Yankee fan (born in NYC, raised in Jersey. I've seen him in the stands at old YS too many times to count.) refused to wear a Red Sox cap in The Departed.

I finally saw Precious yesterday. If Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'nique don't get Oscars for their performances, there is no justice, imo.

RIGHT??? RIGHT? I don't know, sure Streep was great but Sidibe KILLED it. I haven't watched Bullock yet but she's the favorite to win it now and Sidibe hasn't even been in the talks of possibly winning and that just baffles me. Mo'Nique on the other hand, it's her Oscar to lose.

Streep, as always (except for Mamma Mia, imo), was great, and Sandra Bullock did a very fine job (much like Julia Roberts did with Erin Brockovich), but their roles were conventional. Mo'n. and GS were just amazing in complicated roles. I would have said that GS was really great but didn't have a wide range, given her beaten-down, withdrawn character, but her dream sequences showed wonderful range and flair to contrast to that repression. I liked SB and MS and their movies a lot, but these two women blew me away. I can't believe that actors and movie professionals that see all of those performances wouldn't vote for Mo'nique and GS, but there are often all of those other factors like popularity, previous awards or lack thereof, etc.

Hugh has good taste since he is such a big Precious supporter, lol.
I completely agree Cath, and I was listening to a Lee Daniels interview where he said that it was impossible for them to completely follow the book because of how violent it is. And that for a rated R movie, they had to limit what they showed (yea I know right?) and that's why Daniels decided to do all the "dream sequences". Great decision on his part!
